I am who I am, and I am nothing more.
The life and thoughts of a music obsessed, nerdy teenager who should have lived during the 1950's.

Look who just won a book (the third in the past year) for reviewing Atonement!
Dymocks are currently running a ‘Tweet a Review’ competition on twitter where you have to review a book from their 101 Club list in 140 characters or less (which includes the hashtag and their username so it actually equates to about 120) and if they like your review enough, you win a book from the list (there’s also a major prize which consists of every single book on the list - which includes the entire Harry Potter series, counted as a single book)!

High Fidelity by Nick Hornby.I know this is very late and I had every intention of posting it IN December but then it was New Year’s Eve and I had to write a top album list and blah blah blah, you get the picture. Anyway, can you believe it’s been an entire year since I started this list thing? (The first book that ever made this list was Breakfast at Tiffany’s) In reality, I only bought one book last month and received one for Christmas so this list was going to be incredibly short until I realised - I both bought and had bought for me a number of books that did not make this list in their respective months because I actually forgot I hadn’t listed them earlier. So here is my list:
I know I’m posting this late again but with the fashion graduate show this week, I haven’t had a lot of spare time to post anything even half-coherent. This post has also been sitting in my drafts for the past two days because at first I forgot to post it then a sudden illness decided that I should unceremoniously fall asleep for a few hours while I was babysitting my little brother (don’t worry, we were both asleep in the same bed so he wasn’t in any kind of danger - I also put my arm across him so I could tell if he was still breathing). The title of this post is also technically a lie - I still haven’t managed to find a job so really, I didn’t buy myself a single book over the past two months (thank god for my lovely nana and mother). The books on my list are also (mostly) probably not worth noting, particularly in comparison to all the classics I bought in the previous months, but I suppose it’s less expensive to not be a literary snob all the time. Without further ado, here is my list:
iwriteblogsnottragedies replied to your post: List of books I bough in August/September
I own all of these apart from The Casuals and Save Me The Waltz. They’re all so good & I can’t wait for you to read them!! :D
Aww yay! :D I’m super excited about having the chance to read a lot more once my semester ends at the beginning of November.
I have been trying to find the time to post this (and actually remember to do so) since the last week of September so I’m glad I have finally done it. I’m starting to think that perhaps I buy more books each month than I should, or that I can afford. I happened to find quite a lot of well priced books these past few months so I think you can imagine why I felt compelled to buy quite so many. Here is my list:
The Pottermore excitement yesterday caused me to forget about this (despite adding it to my to-do list) and in turn, post this late. The past two months have been rather successful for me in terms of purchasing books with the closing down sale at Borders and returning to University. The fact that Borders closed down was incredibly bittersweet for me because I could finally justify spending money on anything other than iced chocolates from the Gloria Jeans in the centre of the store but bookstores going bankrupt/into administration is highly upsetting for me. There needs to be more love for (physical, not e-)books this world. Here is my list:
I wanted to make a post about the past two months well before the midnight screening of Deathly Hallows Part 2 and, as usual, I have left it until the last minute to do so. Nevertheless, here is a recap of my life events:
I finished my first semester of University without failing. This may not seem like such a big deal because well, I’m melodramatic and other than computing in primary school and maths b in high school, I’ve never come close to failing before (I also have a Certificate II in IT now and was near top of my class despite my primary school computers teacher telling me how awful I was/only taking IT classes from year 10 onwards/only learning how to properly use a computer at 14). However, anything that could have gone wrong seemed to have gone wrong this semester. I developed illness after illness and had to write and research an essay worth 60% of my grade in two days while dosed up on cold and flu tablets, without having the advantage of letting my tutor take a look at it to make sure I was on the right track.
My drama group was denied an extension although Jasmine’s (group member) grandfather passed away and Maddy spent almost a month in hospital and both missed crucial practice time so we had to meet up over the weekend right before the performance date when I’d planned to finish an entire essay. I also woke up at 4 AM on the morning of the performance to start travelling by 5.30 AM without being able to eat breakfast (and I don’t drink coffee - have I mentioned that before? I can’t stand the taste of it) and wishing I’d packed gloves. I will admit, it’s rather beautiful watching the sun rise in the winter.
I verged on losing my voice the exact same week my major speech I wrote on fashion sustainability was due for presentation. I was able to present the following week with a medical certificate (I won’t even tell you what the doctor said about the mucus coating the back of my throat) but I choked, literally CHOKED, in the middle of my presentation. I only stayed 10 minutes afterward and called my mother in tears. Luckily, I was wearing sunglasses and find it difficult to cry in public otherwise it would have been hugely embarrassing. I almost pulled an Anna Karenina at the station because I felt my academic career was over. It also ended up taking me three hours to return home that afternoon so by the time I arrived, my emotions were much more stable.
I basically became an entirely unstable, paranoid and incredibly sick workaholic who spent hours that should have been for sleeping, worrying about not completing assessment. I went to University while I was sick and somehow managed to defeat my first bout of illness in less than a week before it returned in greater force (during speech presentation week) and I actually, entirely lost my voice a few weeks ago.
I also had to write an essay for fashion on a current label or designer - I chose Kitten D’Amour (a Queensland label with outfit inspired by 18th Century France for those who have never heard of it before). I interviewed them via email and they also offered me a chance to work for them if I ever need any industry work experience which is like a dream come true for me because their label is the epitome of everything that I love rolled into one.
In the end, I managed to survive (obviously) and achieve better results than I expected. I also took my sister to QUT for a tour and lunch which she thoroughly enjoyed - particularly the library.
The Borders store in Chermside (with the Gloria Jeans in the middle) also closed down recently. I found out on the 10th day before its disappearance and bought a few books (which will appear in my June/July book list) and almost cried. I really love books/bookstores and ebook readers (and whatnot) are currently my arch nemesis. I’m stubborn and refuse to embrace a future where 15 year olds aren’t capable of basic grammar, punctuation and spelling and nobody appreciates the joys of reading (and smelling) a physical book. I then returned on the second last night to buy another four books because I felt this desperate need to rescue as many books as I could and to bring them home and cherish them like they deserve (I know I sound crazy/creepy but people don’t seem to appreciate books like they should).
My sister’s best friend (who is actually on tumblr here) also stayed with us for a week (last week in fact) and she was absolutely delightful. I went to and inside the Brisbane airport for the first time when we picked her up which was kind of awesome. I gave her (and my family) a tour of QUT before we had lunch and spent the day in the city. I’ve probably said this before but I love the city of Brisbane. We did a lot of walking, I took photos like a tourist, I bought another book, we rode the glass elevator inside the Hilton, we danced to Taylor Swift in Supre, we saw an Asian prostitute, a homeless man and took a family photo.
We also took her to Chermside where I went to Borders for the very last time, I bought a cream cable-knit swear on sale at Jay Jays and I bought the Lego version of Harry Potter on Nintendo DS at 50% off which came with a special edition Harry Potter stylus and Lego figurine complete with a wand and a double-sided face to transform ‘happy Harry’ into ‘angry Harry’. My sister bought me a pair of really cute Geisha girl nail scissor too.
I suppose that concludes the non-Harry Potter sections of my time. Oh, I ended up getting a haircut but apparently I’m now growing it out (much to my own dismay) because it doesn’t suit me. All in all, hair just sucks and most of the time I wish I just wore a wig. I’ll be posting outfit option shortly so please help me out.

I have finally succeeded in posting on the correct day so I’m quite proud of myself (despite the fact that I’m typing with my inferior right hand because I walked shoulder-first into a wall this afternoon). With the end of semester approaching, I’ve had very few shopping opportunities and very little money to spend on said occasions. Despite all this, here is my list:
Since I still have had no luck in obtaining a job, I didn’t buy a single book in January so I figured I could skip right over that month. I also had every intention of posting this two days ago (on March 31st) but due to time restraints/illness, this has been sitting in my drafts less than half completed. Anyway, I bought a lot more books than I probably buy in an entire year this month thanks to University, so here is my list:
