This is becoming a catastrophe...

I am who I am, and I am nothing more.
The life and thoughts of a music obsessed, nerdy teenager who should have lived during the 1950's.

People's Choice Awards nominations (- nominate Patrick Stump)!

So I was voting for nominees for the People’s Choice Awards and all throughout the movie categories it was basically just me boosting numbers for Harry Potter/X-Men. Then I got to the music categories which (because I seem to vote for these things all the time) becomes increasingly difficult as each year passes because I seem to hate popular music more and more over time. So instead of voting at random or skipping the entire section, I decided “I know, I’m going to nominate Patrick Stump for ALL THE AWARDS.” So I did, and you all should too because it’s fun to mess with the system and have someone really talented/deserving win.

I bought a copy of Soul Punk tonight!

It isn’t set for release until tomorrow here (well technically now it’s today) but since JB Hi-Fi generally have albums on the shelves early, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to check. I think I may have scared my mother when I ran over to her in the next aisle and waved the CD in front of her face in excitement. I haven’t had a chance to listen to it tonight since I ended up home so late and I never heard the leak so I’ll be listening to the album for the very first time tomorrow. I have no words to describe just how excited I am to listen to it.

(Also - I hope you can all forgive the fact that I took this rather unflattering photo late at night and the CD is blurry - I had to angle it strangely to get rid of the glare)

linernotekids:

The new LNK website, webstore and collection have officially launched!
A little over 2 years ago, Liner Note Kids began as a shirt I made to wear to a concert.
And look where we are now. LNK shirts are being worn with pride by liner note kids all over the world. Somehow this hope and dream has turned into a proper brand, and it’s all thanks to you.
LNK 2.0 is the first proper screenprint collection and I’m so proud of it. The shirts somehow manage to celebrate my love for all things retro, music and typography all at once and I can’t get enough of them. I hope you feel the same! you can check out all the new designs in the webstore here.
Please keep in mind that the webstore is in USD and as such, prices will change as the NZD-USD exchange rate does. I realise that the USD is in a pretty bad state at the moment, but don’t worry cos LNK is having a RELAUNCH SALE! For the next 2 weeks you can get 10% off everything when you use the discount code LNKRELAUNCH :) My gift to you for supporting me and sticking by me all these years.
Please also keep in mind that the last time i coded a website from scratch was 2008… so if you find anything wrong with it, please let me know so I can try get it sorted :)
That said, I’m keen to know what you think of the site, the webstore, the new collection, everything!?

I am so damn proud of Charli and how far she has managed to come these past few years. She is an amazingly talented artist, designer, photographer and an all-round wonderful person (plus a million other things that I haven’t yet described) and she deserves this more than anyone I know. I still remember the first time I bought an LNK shirt (or rather shirts) and how unbelievably excited and proud I was to wear it whenever I could (seriously, every free dress day at school was LNK day for me).
You can also consider this as me urging each and every one of you to check out her new collection because, even though I’m probably biased, it’s incredible, unique and suits every single possible style or trend you could imagine.

This is my favourite song from IOH. Never heard it live. but I fucking love it.

I wasn’t even aware that they’d ever played this live but I LOVE this song. Fall Out Boy still manage to make my heart beat faster.

Happy first birthday Folie a Deux.
It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year, this spectacular piece of work has meant so very much to me this year, helping provide some of the best memories I could ask for.
I can still remember the lead up to this release and the first time I ever heard this album, I doubt I will ever forget it. At the time FAD was released, I was in the middle of moving houses, living in hotels - on my way to the city of Brisbane from Cairns where I had lived for the past two years. I had pre-ordered the record from GoMerch - the Trois package - and it was being sent to my Grandma since I didn’t have a real address during the time it was meant to arrive - meaning it wouldn’t arrive until just before Christmas at the earliest.
One day while we were still living in Chermside apartments, in fact the final day before we would move into our new home, we were shopping at Kmart in Chermside Westfield. My parents were buying a new outdoor setting and chatting to a worker. I lost interest so I told my parents I was going for a walk and that I’d be back later. Being the technology/entertainment lover that I am, that was the first department that I headed for. I think, realistically, I knew exactly why I headed to the CD section first even though I was fully aware that they would stock almost nothing of my interest - I wanted to see a physical copy of Folie a Deux. I found it immediately and picked it up, completely in awe of the magic I held in my hands. The sticker on the front taunted me: special edition.I battled with myself for what felt like at least an hour before carrying the album with me back to my parents. I knew exactly what my parents were thinking when I brought it back: “but you already bought a copy, why do you need another one?”At least that time I could answer with “it has bonus tracks only available on the Australian edition”.
So I bought the record. I wanted to listen to it the next morning since we got home too late that night but we had to be up early to travel to our new house. I sat around for hours while furniture and boxes were moved into our new home. When everything was moved into what would later be my baby brother’s room, I set up my parent’s laptop. We had no internet connection and found out later that it wouldn’t be connected until the next year - meaning I couldn’t track my order and iTunes wouldn’t automatically name my tracks.I named all of my tracks, the album, the artist, the year before I even started listening to it. Why? Because I was nervous. What if I didn’t love it as much as I thought I would?
Finally, almost shaking with anticipation, I plugged my headphones into the laptop, sitting in the room alone and started the record. The first few notes and words of Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes began and I smiled. The drum beat kicked in and the powerful chorus followed. I honestly couldn’t wipe the grin off my face and the tears began to well up in my eyes. It was amazing, beyond anything I could have imagined the album could have been. By the end of that first track, I was already in love. The rest of the tracks just made my love grow stronger. No one bothered to enter the room, or even try to speak to me while I listened because they knew any answer I would give during that time would be incoherent.
So that was a very long and detailed description of the first time I ever heard Folie a Deux. My pre-order ended up being sent to Canada (thanks to GoMerch having an inablilty to read) before redirecting to Victoria before finally being shipped to me in Brisbane sometime partway through January with the shirts being at least twice my size and another shirt I ordered with the package not being included. Needless to say, I am VERY cautious about ordering from GoMerch now and have only ordered once since (despite now having a 20% discount) that being from Clandestine Industries.
If you read this, I love you. If you inspired me to write this with your own story/nostalgic post, I also love you. If you love this band or album even half as much as I do, well guess what? I love you too.
